At Just Scanning we specialise in concrete scanning and utility location for residential, commercial and mining applications. Having over ten years’ experience in the interpretation of radar data gives our clients peace of mind. Whilst our technology that we use is second to none, it’s our operators that sets us apart.

CONCRETE SCANNING AND SO MUCH MORE
CONCRETE SCANNING
As a builder, prior to any cutting, coring or planned excavation works its essential to have that area scanned by an accredited scanning technician. The reasons for this are many; the safety of the people working, the integrity of the infrastructure and its assets and finally to see if the job is feasible and safe to proceed.
Our technicians are fully accredited and trained to be able to provide the following information to our clients in a thorough and easy to read computer report.
Depth of Slab: Depth of slab is valuable information so that the planned cutting works can be correctly quoted. In the case of coring through from one floor to another the depth of slab is critical. This allows the concrete coring technician to safely stop the core before penetrating, thus reducing the mess upon the final penetration.
Footings, Structural Beams and Thickenings: At Just Scanning we use a variety of different frequencies in our GPR Range. This is because different frequencies work better in different environments. We have handheld concrete scanning GPR’s with the ability to accurately see down to 700-800 mm. This enables us to map out not only the dimensions of the beam and or footing but the depth of it as well.
Locating Penetrations from Under the Slab: Using the Hilti PX-10 our technicians can accurately locate the underside of a planned core hole penetration. This is very helpful when planning the future works for the other contractors. For example, upon the location of a hole from the underside of a slab it may not be suitable to run pipework for plumbing. In addition to this it gives us the ability to scan from both sides of the slab. This is very effective in locating fire cabling and electrical conduits that may be hidden underneath the rebar sheeting.
Reinforcement and Spacings: Rebar sheeting gives strength to the concrete slab, even ground slabs. The size of the rebar sheeting in diameter and spacing is at the discretion of the structural engineers. In suspended slabs there can often be 2 or even 3 layers of rebar sheeting. Keep in mind that this has structural significance to the building and if it can be avoided should not be damaged. At Just Scanning we can accurately map out the rebar sheeting including its depth and provide Engineer Friendly Computer Reporting outlining which bars are on top and which are at the bottom. This has great significance to Engineers in their likelihood of approving a penetration or not.
Voids: Voids in concrete structures can and do happen. Whilst it is more commonly seen in plinths, walls and columns where it is more difficult for the concreters to vibrate the mix it can also occur in ground slabs. At Just Scanning we can locate the voids and give you an estimation of the actual size that needs to be repaired.
Post Tensioning: Post tensioning is serious business for any builder, the cost to repair a damaged strand can run into the tens of thousands. As theses strands provide a vital support network for the weight of a suspended slab, they also may not run in a uniform pattern across a building like rebar sheeting. Finding the starting and finishing points of a post tensioning strand takes an experienced operator. At Just Scanning, we pride ourselves in accurately locating all post tensioning strands.
Conduits and Non-Metallic Assets: Conduits can be live which make them much easier to find. At Just Scanning our GPR Units utilise electromagnetic field detection to locate the live targets in the slab. When they are not live using the various frequencies in all our GPR Range we can locate conduits and non-metallic targets using our technicians unique understanding of the reverse polarity principle.
After the data is collected from the scan, it’s now time to compile all the information into a report for our client.
At Just Scanning, the report is a very important part of our service.
Given that we offer concrete scanning, brick scanning, NDT services, all-terrain scanning and utility location we have learned to modify our reporting system for our clients.
Some clients want a report very quickly as the core hole urgently needs to be completed. Other clients require a CAD drawing (Computer Aided Design) of a large area like a shopping centre or petrol station.
Often, clients need to submit the report to an Engineer prior to the work being approved. In situations like this it helps if you can provide the information that the Engineer requires. It’s not just about drawing rebar lines on a ground. Engineers need to know: slab thickness, depth and estimated size of rebar, location and direction of the post tensioning and the location and depth of structural thickenings. At Just Scanning, we provide all this information for our clients in a computer generated report. This report contains radar data images from our Proceq range, site images and technician recommendations.
No matter how detailed and in depth our clients need are, the report is completed on site before we leave. That is the Just Scanning guarantee.
Scanning & Core Hole Drilling:
After the scanning is done, often there is a core hole that needs drilling. At Just Scanning, we provide that service. In our experience, clients prefer to engage the same company to do the coring that completed the scanning. At Just Scanning, we have an experienced coring team and preferred contractors that can look after all your coring needs.
We are on-time, we are extremely clean, and our primary objective is to protect the area around and most importantly below each hole we drill.
